About Me
Hi, I’m Marc Bell, and for more than three decades I’ve dedicated my life to protecting and serving the people of Illinois. My career began with the Illinois State Police, where I rose to the rank of Master Sergeant, gaining firsthand experience in leadership, training, and the daily realities of public safety. I later served as a School Safety Officer, working directly with students, educators, and families to keep our children safe.
I’ve also brought my experience to government oversight, serving as a state appointee on the Illinois Gaming Board, where I helped enforce regulations and ensure ethical standards in one of the state’s most closely watched industries. Today, I serve as the Police Community Review Commissioner for the City of Springfield, a role that allows me to build bridges between law enforcement and the community, strengthen trust, and uphold accountability.

Integrity is the cornerstone of effective leadership. Throughout his career, as a Master Sergeant with the Illinois State Police, as a School Safety Officer, and now as Springfield’s Police Community Review Commissioner, Marc has consistently led with transparency and honesty. He understands that the people of Sangamon County deserve a sheriff who tells the truth, acts ethically, and never forgets that the badge is a symbol of responsibility, not privilege.
SERVICE
For Marc Bell, service is more than a duty, it’s a lifelong calling. From protecting children in schools to overseeing state regulatory agencies, he has always placed the needs of the public first. As sheriff, Marc will continue this commitment by focusing on community partnerships, public safety, and programs that prioritize prevention and support over punishment. Service means being present, listening to citizens, and delivering solutions that make lives better.

I believe Sangamon County can lead the way in building a justice system that is transparent, fair, and accountable to the people it serves. Too often, government has left citizens in the dark, making decisions without the input or trust of the community. My vision as sheriff is to change that by ensuring open communication, accessible information, and clear accountability at every level of the Sheriff’s Office. Sangamon County deserves leadership that listens, explains, and works side by side with residents to solve problems.
A safer, stronger community requires more than tough talk, it requires smart action. That means investing in mental health resources, ensuring our deputies receive the best training, and working with schools and neighborhoods to prevent crime before it happens. My focus will always be on protecting families, keeping children safe, and addressing the root causes of crime so that every resident can feel secure in their home and community.
As a Democrat, I believe in government that works for the people, not for special interests. That means operating with transparency, standing up for working families, and ensuring that every decision is made with fairness and accountability in mind. Together, we can create a Sheriff’s Office that leads with honor, integrity, and service, one that makes Sangamon County a safer, more just, and a more united place for all.
